The QUANT FE embodies the second evolutionary stage of the nanoFlowcell® drive. "F" stands for Flow, indicating to the viewer that there is flow cell technology in here; and "E" for the continual evolution of this completely new kind of electric vehicle concept. It is the evolution of the revolution, so to speak - because, in all modesty, the QUANT FE is a drivable automobile revolution.

FILLING UPWITH A CLEAR CONSCIENCE.

Will it be possible to build a fuel-station infrastructure suitable for nanoFlowcell®? Yes. When? Very quickly, because existing fuel stations can simply be retrofitted. There could also be standalone refuelling systems, installed in convenient locations or at home. Will it be interesting for consumers and providers in terms of costs? Yes. Why? Because refuelling with ionic fluid - one positively and one negatively charged liquid, is possible right now. And because the manufacture of ionic liquid is already inexpensive using current technology. On top of that, the ionic liquid is non-toxic, non-flammable and has a virtually infinite shelf life. All this is beneficial to mass production, logistics and storage, without any onerous regulatory requirements.

Filling up with the ionic liquid barely differs from the refuelling process for vehicles with internal combustion engines, only that this involves two liquids beings pumped simultaneously into two separate tanks within the vehicle.

Another special feature of the QUANT FE is the control switches on genuine wood. The new sensorFLOW® technology creates a visual highlight of a type not yet seen for automotive controls. At first, all you see is the pure, smooth surface of the natural ash. On switching on the vehicle, the capacitive switch controls become visible through the wood. Likewise shining through the wood are the bands of blue light that represent the flow of the nanoFlowcell®. "The wood is cut so finely that light finger pressure on the sensorFLOW® icons is all it takes to trigger the command," enthuses Nunzio La Vecchia. "With this innovation, we are able to create a direct link to digital control with the simple touch of a finger on a sustainable material like wood."

EXCEPTIONAL DESIGNMEETS EXCEPTIONAL TECHNOLOGY.

At a width of more than 1.25 metres and height of more than 16 centimetres, the front display brings a "widescreen cinema feel" and modern display technology to the car's interior. The instrument cluster, head unit and entertainment are integrated across the entire width and fuse to become a single unit. Here too, the image is defined by flowing lines running front to rear. Consistently horizontal division of all the instruments generates clarity and reflects the horizontal lines of the interior design. Classic "pointers" are replaced by modern circle segments. A torque display replaces the classic rev counter used in cars powered by conventional engines. The torque figures of all four electric motors are visualised, allowing the driver to keep track of the full functionality of the energy management system in real time.

At the very heart of the QUANT FE is the nanoFlowcell® battery. It achieves ranges of up to 800 kilometres. The latest product for attractive electromobility was conceived in nanoFlowcell AG's simulation lab, the nanoFlowcell DigiLab in Zürich. It is currently still at the development stage, but the results achieved to-date are incredibly promising.

TIRELESS ENERGY SOURCE

The nanoFlowcell® functions as a tireless source of energy for the central storage unit as long as sufficient electrolytic fluid is present in the tanks. Once the reserve is used up, both tank contents need to be replaced. The prototype features a double tank system with dual filler necks, making this process is no more complicated than filling up a conventionally powered vehicle today.

Four electric motor units make up the QUANT e-Sportlimousine’s propulsion system. Alongside the tanks (A), there is the nanoFlowcell® (B), which continuously sends electrical energy to the central storage unit.

ENVIRONMENTALLY FRIENDLY TRAVEL

The nanoFlowcell® is extremely environmentally friendly. It uses neither precious metals nor rare earths. The cell comprises mostly water as a carrier substance, metallic salts, and crystalline structures. All of these components can be combined, used, and disposed of with no damage to the environment.

C) Supercap

This energy storage unit is made up of two large high-performance “supercap” capacitors. These capacitors are lossless electrical energy storage devices that can release energy very rapidly; an important criterion for a sports car’s driving performance.

A QUANTUM LEAP

Process engineers call the chemical activity inside the nanoFlowcell® “cold combustion”, though the internal operating temperatures can range from 60° to 160° Celsius depending on output. This low operating temperature range also contributes to the system’s excellent internal efficiency of more than 80%.

D) DRIVE MOTORS

Four identical, asynchronous three-phase drive motors (D) propel the QUANT f. They are designed to produce 801 kW (1090 PS) each, though this peak is not achieved during driving. The overall performance of the powertrain is limited to a maximum of 480 kW (653 PS). In addition, there is a state-of-the-art central ECU (electronic control unit) responsible for controlling the driving- and charging-currents throughout the entire powertrain.
